Downloadable movie commentary

Posted on

For MST3K fans, Mike Nelson launched Rifftrax where you can purchase commentary tracks for movies, currently featuring Road House. Just download the MP3 track and play during the movie. Then just cutout a silohoutte on black construction paper and tape to the bottom of your tv screen and enjoy!

Do you feel that some of the movies coming out of Hollywood are just, well, missing something? At RiffTrax, you can download Mike's running commentaries and listen to them along with your favorite, and not so favorite DVDs

Apple: 1 in 9 laptops sold

Posted on

Lots of good numbers in today's reuters story about Apple profits. I want to focus your brian on the fact that Apple;s share of the US notebook market had "doubled to 12 percent" in the last half of 2005. This means that 1 in 9 new laptops out there is not running Windows. More importantly, 1 in 9 new laptops is not running Internet Explorer. Think HTML and CSS standards will matter much in the near future? Discussion on Slashdot.

Series 3 TiVo's out "soon"

Posted on

From TivoBlog, news that Series 3 TiVo's are currently in beta testing and will be released ssoon. These will be the first units to include a CableCARD decoders (so that you can record digital content bypassing your cable provider's set top box) and HD. I recall reading that CAbleCARD won't work with satellite dishes, so this might just be the thing to tempt me back to cable. Until I see the monthly rates they want to charge, that is, and then I'll decide its not worth the cost.\
