Somewhat soccer related, this past weekend Mayor Williams floated a trial baloon proposing building a brand new $300 million stadium to lure a major league baseball team to the District. As a socccer fan this pretty much reinforces the notion that MLS is still a second or third tier sport’s league and it makes me a bit mad. However, the practical side of me is more assured that this idea will go nowhere. Off wing Opinon has analyzed this is a piece titled The Charade Continues.
Why? Because Washington is simply more valuable to MLB without a team, as a bargaining chip to blackmail other cities into paying for publicly funded stadiums, than it is as a home for the wayward Montreal Expos.
