Colorado, home to the nation’s toughest anti-immigrant law is finding that enforcing the law has cost more than $2 million and resulted in no savings. Who would have thought such a law wasn’t the brightest idea? Not the politicians running up to an election who need to show the voters that they’re "doing something" about it. Of course, if the report doesn’t say what you want to hear, like Sen. David Schultheis, then it must mean that departments are suppressing information and "playing fast and loose with the statistics for ideological reasons."
The result: Eighteen departments reported adding $2.03 million in costs while not saving any money. None of the departments could say how many, if any, illegal immigrants were being denied state- funded services. Lawmakers expressed mixed views about the report.
