One of the larger employers in the Dulles Area, is moving its headquarters from Virginia to New York City. It’ll still have "significant operations" in Dulles, presumably their data centers. according to the Post, most of the 4,000 people employed here will remain in Northern Virginia.
Locally, the move is not expected to make an immediate economic impact. But local officials acknowledged it deals a symbolic blow to the region, where AOL has served as the area’s biggest technology success story, even as it weathered tough times during the tech bust.
The company is transforming into a more advertising and content related company.
The company will continue to have office space in Virginia, Mountain View, CA, and other locations. But the headquarters will be moving to New York, which is widely seen as the advertising capital of the country.
